Day 7- Philippians 4:6-7

The last few blog posts have gradually gotten fewer and further between. Brandon and I have both been super busy these past few weeks and we also ran out of our big bucket of sidewalk chalk ;) I know excuses, excuses...

Anyways, Friday night after work we cooked dinner together and picked out a verse. We choose Philippians 4: 6-7 because Brandon has really been reading and enjoying this book of the bible lately and this specific verse really spoke to us. We choose this verse because it fit us perfectly and was a great reminder to prayerfully rely on God for everything.

Check out the great commentary I found online for this verse here.

Hope this comforts and calms your hearts the way it did ours.

Day 6- 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Brandon and I have both been very busy lately. He is working to complete his MBA at John Brown University in Rogers while working and work has been very busy for me. Last night Brandon didn't get home from his class meeting until around 9:30 but we didn't let that stop us from 'chalkin' it up'. It was actually a little cooler outside. I got to pick the verse out and I choose 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Back when Brandon and I first started dating, I wrote him this note (below) He put it on his bathroom mirror. Just a little encouragement first thing in the morning each day. :)

This verse really allows me to take a step back in the midst of this crazy thing called life and focus on the positive in every situation. I truly believe God has something for us to learn from every circumstance and that He wants us to be thankful. No matter how difficult it may be.

Love this quote. “God’s will is exactly what you would want for your life if you knew what He knew.” My friend Holley Armstrong Gerth shared via her encouraging page Heart to Heart with Holley

I hope this verse encourages you this week. :)

Day 5- Psalms 46

Today's verse chose itself!!  Yes that's right... :)

My dear friend Lauren called me this afternoon and we were chatting about life and she shared with me a verse that I had shared with her just a few days prior. 'Be still and know that I am God' - Psalms 46:10

God had revealed this verse to her in several different ways in the past few days and I was in awe of God when she told me this. I love when He just speaks or shouts exactly what your heart is needing to hear. So I got off the phone with Lauren and starting getting dinner ready. I had everything cooking and a had a few minutes so I started reading through my bible. This summer, my church- Fellowship Bible, is doing a summer in Psalms series and there is a verse for everyday to read. I had gotten distracted this morning and left the house without my daily time in the word- so I was in shock when today's verse was PSALMS 46!!!! I told Brandon about everything and he agreed that tonight's verse was simply chosen for us. ;) God is so incredible and I pray that someone else in our neighborhood sees this verse and that is touches them like it did Lauren and myself! God is so good!

So tonight just 'be still' and in awe of our awesome Creator. Just take the simple things in and let him reveal Himself to you in a whole new way! :)

Day 4- Hebrews 11:3

Monday was quite the day for me! Between work, house chores, my PEO meeting, trying to prepare for Tuesday's baking a cake for a sweet family- cooking dinner for a friend, and trying to be there for a another friend- my head was spinning by the end of the day! When I finally did get home, Brandon was waiting with Shooter outside with a bucket of sidewalk chalk. It was nearly 9 o'clock and there were not many neighbors out but it was a great way to wrap up my busy day. We choose Hebrews 11:3 as the verse for Day 4 and it is a great verse!  Hope you enjoy the commentary verse and commentary I found.

Hebrews 11:3

New International Version (NIV)

3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Wesley's Notes on Hebrews 11:3
11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds - Heaven and earth and all things in them, visible and invisible. Where made - Formed, fashioned, and finished. By the word - The sole command of God, without any instrument or preceding matter. And as creation is the foundation and specimen of the whole divine economy, so faith in the creation is the foundation and specimen of all faith. So that things which are seen - As the sun, earth, stars. Were made of things which do not appear - Out of the dark, unapparent chaos, Gen 1:2. And this very chaos was created by the divine power; for before it was thus created it had no existence in nature.

Day 3- Luke 9:23-24

Brandon and I did yard work ALL weekend! There is just something about doing all that hard work yourself that makes you proud! We did however find a few minutes on Saturday to 'chalk up' our verse. We had already chosen Saturday's verse. Brandon found Luke 9:23-24 the other night and was really excited about it! Be sure to read the verse yourself but we really loved the meaning in this verse and we hope it inspires our neighbors to read it this week!

Night #2- John 6:35

Brandon and I decided we wanted each verse to be up for two full days before we write another verse so that we can ensure more neighbors are able to see it. Brandon also has class on Tuesday nights at JBU while he is working towards his MBA, so that also helps the schedule. ;) We have really been enjoying this time together at night. Time in the word and time with each other. Quality time is always fun! The other night we were up until 11 (which is late for us) just trying to our next verse to share!

Tonight's verse is John 6:35.  Be sure to look it up. I would also encourage you to look it up in your bible. There's just something about holding the Holy Bible and reading scriptures. God's word is such a beautiful thing and I love how He speaks directly to us through it.

First Night of Driveway Devotionals

My husband and I went to church on Sunday and the sermon really challenged us to look at our lives and reflect on the ways we were serving others around us. The sermon was focused on a girl about my age who is currently serving the Lord in India. They did a video on her that they shared with the congregation and when it was over, the pastor brought a video camera out and pointed it at us. My heart actually started to race a bit as I did not know what he was going to do. He had already called Brandon out during his sermon and used him as an example for something. Ha! So at this point I was not sure what to think. The pastor then carried on to talk about how the young woman he had just shared with us had no problem sitting in front of the camera and sharing all that she has been doing for the Lord and for others in the name of God's love.

That really got me thinking and then he proceeded to lay signs along the steps of the stage. 'Home' 'Work' 'Town' etc. As he was placing the signs he asked us where we were serving in these areas and that really got Brandon and I thinking...

So Brandon had already had this idea of ministry.. reading our bibles on our driveway and writing a verse on our slanted driveway afterwards. So we did it! Last night was our first night and it was awesome! We had a great response from people walking and riding their bikes by our house. 'Love your verse' a few people said as they walked by and one woman walking her dog even stopped to talk with us and low and behold- she goes to our church and thought what we were doing was very cool. Have this in mind though- this is not something we are doing so we can be cool- this is something we are doing to glorify our Lord and share his love with people. It's such an easy and fun way to share! Check out our verse for Day 1: Matthew 22:37-39 We thought it was a great way to start out our Driveway Devotionals... be sure to read the verse! It's a great one!
